70th birthday napkins for seven decades

Personalized napkins printed with the name, the number 70, the birth year or a photograph. A seventieth is a family occasion: a long lunch, grandchildren at one end of the table, and people who have known the guest of honour for most of their lives.

Cream, sage, navy, burgundy and gold. Nothing loud. The design that works here is a good typeface, the number, and the year they were born, which does more than any slogan.

Print the photograph

Of all the milestones, this is where an old photograph earns its place. A picture from their twenties printed alongside 70 is the thing guests pocket and the family keeps.

70th birthday napkin questions

How many do I need?

One to two dinner napkins per guest for the meal, plus two to three cocktail napkins each for tea, drinks and cake. For 40 guests, around 60 dinner and 100 cocktail napkins.

Which size for a family lunch?

Dinner, 6.5 x 6.5 inches, since a seventieth is nearly always a seated meal. Cocktail size for the cake and the drinks, which at this milestone often includes tea and coffee.

Can you use an old photograph?

Yes, and it is worth doing here more than at any other milestone. Send the best scan you can of the original print; we can lift the contrast and clean up damage before you see the proof.

What wording works?

The name, the number and the birth year. Seventy years of, followed by something true about them, if you have the phrase. Avoid anything that reads as a joke about age.

How far ahead should I order?

Three to four weeks, and longer if we are restoring a photograph. Family parties at this milestone are usually planned well in advance, so there is rarely a reason to rush it.
